Working Principle:
A trommel screen, also known as a rotary screen, is a mechanical screening device used to separate materials based on size. It consists of a cylindrical drum that rotates at an angle to the horizontal. As the drum rotates, material is fed into one end of the cylinder. Inside the cylinder, there is a perforated screen that separates the materials according to their sizes.
The larger particles, which cannot pass through the openings in the screen, are discharged at the far end of the drum. Smaller particles fall through the openings in the screen and exit the system separately. The rotation of the drum helps to mix and tumble the material, ensuring thorough screening.
The trommel screen is often equipped with water jets to wash the material being screened, which is particularly useful when dealing with sticky or wet materials.
Applications:
Trommel screens are widely used in various industries for sorting and separating materials:
Mining and Minerals Processing:
Construction and Demolition Waste Management:
Recycling:
Agriculture:
Waste Management:
By effectively separating materials according to size, trommel screens play a crucial role in improving the efficiency of material handling processes across multiple industries.
